When Apple introduced the iPhone, it shook up the cell phone business. Now, with the looming launch of a tablet-style computer, Apple could pose an even tougher challenge to established players in the video game business.
iPhone is a capable portable gaming platform (though the inflated numbers don't really tell the tale of how many GOOD games there are). But it's truly portable like the DS.
The tablet is "portable" in the sense that it can easily be thrown into a backpack and hauled out. Playing games on it, though, won't be the semi-private hunched-over affair that the DS has.
The iPhone / iPod Touch will be Apple's portable gaming breadwinners. People will only buy games for the Tablet because they don't HAVE one of those (iPhone/iPod), not because they have both and prefer the tablet.
I can't imagine someone busting out their tablet during their bus commute to play a game, the same way I see people using their DS.
